Project description:

The project Forest for Future – Science and Environmental Education for Primary Schools in Finland and Slovenia aims to develop and improve approaches to science and environmental education in primary schools in Finland and Slovenia. The project is based on the concept of connected learning, which links school education, scientific research, and experiential learning in natural environments.

Within the project, students will explore the biodiversity of forest ecosystems and the impacts of climate change on the natural environment. They will use basic scientific methods such as observation, measurement, data collection, and interpretation of results. Researchers from partner research institutions will provide expert support to teachers and students and contribute to the transfer of scientific knowledge into the educational process.

The project encourages cooperation between schools and research institutions and promotes the exchange of good practices in environmental education. Special emphasis is placed on strengthening interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and encouraging young people’s interest in research.

The main project activities include the development and improvement of the Forgenius for Schools educational model, collaboration between teachers and researchers in the development of teaching materials, joint student learning projects on biodiversity and climate change, field-based learning in natural environments, exchanges of teachers and researchers between Slovenia and Finland, and the organisation of professional seminars and dissemination of project results.
