On Friday 26 September 2014 a presentation of scientific achievements in 2013 titled "Excellence in Science 2013 - Presentation of Achievements in Biotechnical Research" as part of the European Researchers’ Night project was held in SFI's large lecture hall. The event was organized by the Slovenian Research Agency in cooperation with the Slovenian Forestry Institute and Videolectures.net, and opened with a welcome speech by SFI Director Dr. Primož Simončič.
At the event, researchers who had published outstanding scientific results in the biotechnical field in 2013 presented their work. Among them was Prof. Dr. Hojka Kraigher, head of the Scientific Research Department of Forest Physiology and Genetics of SFI, with a presentation titled: "Assessments of Growth, Biomass and Turnover of the Mycelium of Mycorrhizal Fungi in Forest Soil".
The event helped create new opportunities for linking and networking among researchers, encouraging collaboration in interdisciplinary research projects in future. After the presentations, visitors were invited to tour the renovated laboratories of SFI, where they were shown state-of-the-art research equipment by those entrusted with operating and maintaning it (mainly the Institute’s young researchers). As part of the EUFORINNO project (project 7 OP EU RegPot No. 315982, which made possible the purchase of new scientific equipment), refreshments were served at the end of the tour, encouraging a more informal way of connecting and networking among researchers and other visitors at the event.
